Sisters Of Mercy “This Corrosion” - "Hey now, hey now now"
You can find me on Face Book too ;)
“Artist” & “Fantasy Author” Matthew Christopher Nelson has a project about to be funded on kickstarter where he is using “re-appropriated” (stolen) images from BJD artists and collectors (myself included) to illustrate his new fantasy novel. He has taken many many images from online accounts and run them through photoshop filters to call his own (to add insult to injury he has re-named the dolls as his characters and mis-gendered a great many of them.)
You can find the bulk of “his” “illustrations” on his facebook page. His current kickstarter project does not feature them in its preview, but a past canceled one did, implying a certainty that these images are still intended as part of the project.
As of now, he has refused any communication with the original artists to confirm the use of images, or the removal of images and his attitude in recent posts seems to indicate he has no intention of ceasing this project or admitting to what he is trying to do.
Above you can see several examples of the original work and “his” work. All the dolls in the photos belong to and were painted by me. In addition to private BJD owner pix, he is also using official BJD images from companies such as Iplehouse and he’s even snuck in an image of Ezio from the popular video game franchise Assassin’s Creed.

oh, he has many photos of bjd owners I recognize.. They are heavily eddited. That’s nasty!!! :(
new horns :3 I actually made those for my Resin Soul girl. I decided that for this spring she and Aramis will have lovely ram horns.
Casual day off. Now I have a bigger pair of horns, a pair of rabbit ears and a unicorn horn I made just for fun. I make my props from polymer clay.
I will be honest.
I tried to accept it, as I’m quiet a calm person and I try to accept others’ choices. But I’ve had enough.
There’re so many recasts in my local community that I can’t stand it anymore. I left the facebook group which is recast friendly (we have two big local facebook groups, one is recast friendly, the other is not that much), because it’s a pain for me to look at those dolls.
I will not judge people who buy recasts.
But it’s really painful for me that I work months and save up for so long to buy a doll, and you just buy the “same” looking doll for 1/3 or 1/4 of the money.
It hurts me, so it’s better not to look at them I think.
I don’t care what you buy, it’s your choice.
And it’s my choice to buy dolls only from companies or second hand with a certificate of authenticity.
Dear follower, if you don’t agree with this, feel free to unfollow me. I will not judge you if you have recast dolls but I will not look at them.
Please reblog this if you have the same opinion. Thanks.
Though my reasons are different - I don’t care about people getting the same doll less expensively; if it was just a cheaper doll or a major sale for a legitimate doll, I would be thrilled to death for them. It’s not about how much you spend, it’s about paying the artist his or her asking price.
I care that my friends and fellow artists are losing their livelihoods. I’m sad that I no longer feel safe producing for the resin BJD market - I care too much about my work to provide it to a group that would pay to have a third party recast it if they thought my prices were too high. I would rather just not make my sculpts available for purchase.
